11-year-old Philanthropist Gives Chicago Some California Love by Raising Over $60,000 for the Windy City’s Homeless

11-Year-Old Khloe Thompson Extends Her Kindness Beyond the Holidays to Help Those in Need

It’s easy to forget, once the holiday lights fade and the excitement of the New Year settles down, that there are still many people struggling to stay warm and fed throughout the long winter months. But for 11-year-old Khloe Thompson from Los Angeles, California, the spirit of giving doesn’t have an expiration date — it’s a way of life.

After watching a weather report about dangerously cold conditions sweeping through Chicago earlier this year, Khloe felt compelled to act. “I just couldn’t stop thinking about how cold it must be for people who don’t have homes,” she told Good Morning America. “I wanted to help, even though I live all the way in California.”

So, the compassionate pre-teen launched a GoFundMe campaign to support The Salvation Army of Chicago, an organization that provides critical shelter, meals, and community programs for those facing homelessness or hardship. Her campaign quickly gained traction online, drawing donations and praise from supporters across the country.

According to The Chicago Sun-Times, Khloe’s fundraiser aims to provide warm clothing, food, and temporary housing for hundreds of people affected by the winter storms. “It makes me feel good as a mom knowing that my kid cares about people who are less fortunate,” said Khloe’s mother, Alisha Thompson, a Los Angeles hairdresser who has watched her daughter’s charitable efforts grow since she was just eight years old (The Chicago Sun-Times).

While many might view child-driven campaigns as short-term trends, Khloe is no stranger to philanthropy. Back in 2016, she founded Khloe Kares, a nonprofit initiative that provides “Kare Bags” filled with hygiene items, blankets, and uplifting notes to homeless women in Southern California. That project began as a local act of kindness but quickly blossomed into a national movement recognized by outlets like CNN and People.

“I just want people to know that someone really cares about them,” Khloe said in an interview with People. “Even small things — like a warm blanket or a kind note — can make a big difference.”

At press time, her latest campaign had raised $64,365 of its $65,000 goal, with donations still coming in from across the U.S. (GoFundMe data). Beyond the money, Khloe hopes her message inspires others to find ways to give, not only during the holidays but throughout the year.

“She reminds us that compassion doesn’t have an age limit,” said a representative from The Salvation Army in Chicago. “Her efforts show that one person, no matter how young, can spark real change.” (CNN)

As winter continues, Khloe Thompson stands as proof that kindness, empathy, and leadership can thrive in the youngest hearts — and that the true spirit of giving shines brightest long after the holiday lights go out.
