A Heartwarming Encounter: A Child’s Innocence and the Power of Love.

Today, something happened that deeply moved me—a moment that reminded me why I serve. Whether in the USMC, as part of the State Police, or now as a City Police officer, it’s these moments of humanity that make it all worth it.

I was at Chick-fil-A, enjoying a rare quiet moment, when a beautiful young child approached me. He looked up and simply said, “Thank you for your service.” That alone warmed my heart. But then, he did something I wasn’t expecting—he led me to the counter and bought me a cookie.

I smiled and thanked him, thinking that was it. But then he asked me to wait. Moments later, he returned with a gift card, smiling as he told me it was so I could come back again.

It was a small gesture, but profoundly thoughtful. This child didn’t see the color of my skin or judge me for my uniform. He just saw a law enforcement officer and wanted to show kindness. In a world so often divided by tension and prejudice, his pure, innocent heart reminded me of the goodness that still exists.

I want to thank his parents for raising such a compassionate child—someone who sees love and respect beyond race, profession, or background. It’s heartening to know that kindness can still shine so brightly.

I know opinions about law enforcement vary, and I respect that. But moments like this remind me why I wear the badge—not for the tough calls, but for the people, the small acts of kindness, and the reminder that God walks with us in every moment.

To that child: thank you. Your kindness means more than you’ll ever know.

To his parents: thank you for raising such an incredible soul.

This was truly one of my “Best Days Ever.”
