A young woman saved a lion cub that was hanging from the edge of a cliff and was about to fall into the abyss, but
when she turned around, she saw a huge lioness staring straight at her with the eyes of a predator… And what
happened next was truly terrifying
During an ordinary hike in the mountains, I could never have imagined that one day I would find myself only a few
steps away from death.
That day had started completely peacefully. The sky was covered with clouds, a light mist drifted over the forest, and
everything around me was silent. I was walking along an old hiking trail, taking pictures of the mountains, and was
just about to head back when I suddenly heard a strange, pitiful cry.
At first, I thought a puppy had gotten trapped somewhere nearby
I stopped and listened carefully.
The sound came again, only this time it was louder and much more desperate. I cautiously walked to the edge of a
large rocky ledge and looked down.
On the face of a steep cliff, directly above a deep chasm, a tiny lion cub was hanging.
It was clinging to a narrow outcrop with its claws, using the last of its strength to keep from falling. The rocks
beneath its paws kept crumbling away, and the little cub was so frightened that it did not even try to roar. It only let
out soft little cries and looked up with huge, terrified eyes.
I knew that if I did nothing, it would fall within seconds.
There was not another person anywhere around. There was no one to call for help.
I took off my backpack, lay flat on my stomach across the cold rock, and carefully stretched down as far as I could.
With one hand I held onto the ledge, while with the other I tried to reach the cub.
But it was too far away.
Then I took off my light jacket, rolled it into a long strip, and lowered it toward the cub. Instinctively, the little lion
grabbed onto the fabric with its claws, but it had almost no strength left.
I could feel myself slowly slipping toward the edge as well.
The stones beneath my feet crumbled away, my fingers were going numb from the strain, and my heart was beating
so hard that it felt as though the entire valley could hear it.
Gathering the last of my strength, I yanked the jacket upward and at the same time grabbed the cub by its front paw.
The little cub let out a loud cry, but a moment later it was lying safely beside me on the rock.
We were both breathing heavily.
The cub lay at my feet, trembling, and did not even try to run away. Perhaps it also understood that it had just
survived by a miracle.
I was about to pick it up and carry it farther away from the cliff when I suddenly felt that someone was watching me.
It was a strange feeling. The kind you get when you realize that someone is staring at you very closely

She stared at me as though I were her enemy. I froze.
The cub saw its mother too and let out a soft little cry. But the lioness did not even go to her cub. Instead, she took a
few slow steps directly toward me. That was when I realized something horrifying.
She had no idea that I had just saved her baby. To her, I was simply a stranger standing beside her cub.
The lioness suddenly let out a deafening roar. The sound echoed across the entire valley.
Without thinking for even a second, I jumped to my feet and ran. Behind me, I heard the heavy pounding of her paws.
I knew it was impossible to outrun a predator like that.
A few yards ahead of me stood a large old tree. I ran to it and began climbing, gripping the wet bark with my hands.
A second later, the lioness was already below me.
She jumped several times trying to reach me, roaring loudly and circling the tree without taking her eyes off me.
I was certain that this was the end.
I sat on a branch, too terrified to even move.
What felt like an eternity passed.
Then, at one point, I heard that familiar little cry from below.
The lion cub walked over to its mother and gently rubbed its muzzle against her side.
The lioness stopped roaring immediately.
She carefully examined her cub, as though making sure it was unharmed.
Then she looked up at me one last time.
I will never forget that look.
After that, she turned around, gently nudged the cub with her nose, and the two of them slowly disappeared into the
trees.
Only then did I realize that I was still alive.
When my legs finally stopped shaking, I climbed down from the tree and almost ran all the way back to camp.
I realized one important thing: the wild follows its own laws.
That predator could not possibly understand that I was trying to save her cub. To a mother, I was simply a threat that
had come too close to her baby.
I survived only because the lioness was able to see that her cub was safe.
