When the first nurse announced her pregnancy, no one was surprised. People have private lives, and no one is
obligated to explain what happens outside of work.
But then the second nurse turned out to be pregnant, and soon after, the third. It was at that moment that rumors
began spreading through the department.
The strangest part was that they all claimed the same thing. None of them had a steady relationship, and none could
name the man from whom she had become pregnant. They avoided conversations, stumbled over their words, and
asked not to be questioned further.
Yet all these stories shared one common detail. In recent months, all of them had been working night shifts and were
on duty in room 23B.
In that room, for more than a year, lay a young firefighter who had been severely injured in a major fire while on duty.
He had never come out of the coma.
His condition remained stable, but without any improvement. Despite this, friends and colleagues continued to visit
him, bringing flowers and cards, sometimes simply sitting beside him, hoping for a miracle.
When the rumors reached the chief physician, the first thing he decided to do was examine the patient. Perhaps
something inexplicable was happening. But all the tests showed the same results: minimal brain activity, no
reactions, no movements, no signs of consciousness.
From a medical standpoint, what was happening was impossible. The nurses could not have become pregnant by
him.
The more the doctor thought about it, the stronger his sense of unease grew. The nurses were hiding something. Not
