The father smiled softly.

He squeezed her hand.

“We’re looking for my daughter’s birthday gift.”

The girl leaned closer to the glass—

Jeans.
Shoes.

Her smile changed.

Subtle.

Cruel.

“We don’t really have anything in your price range.”

Silence.

Heavy.

The father didn’t move.
