Put These Items in Your Refrigerator to Eliminate Unpleasant Odors After Just One Night

If your refrigerator has an unpleasant smell, you can place certain natural items inside to quickly and effectively get rid of the odor. Here are some easy and natural ways to keep your fridge smelling fresh.

Pomelo Peel

Pomelo peels contain abundant essential oils that produce a pleasant fragrance capable of overpowering bad smells in the fridge. The surface of the pomelo peel has many tiny pores that help absorb and filter out strange odor-causing molecules from the air inside your refrigerator.

Simply take some fresh pomelo peels and place them in different compartments of your fridge to deodorize it naturally. Be sure to replace the peels regularly to avoid them becoming moldy or rotten.

Similarly, lemon and orange peels also contain natural essential oils that emit a fresh scent and help remove unpleasant odors in the fridge. You can keep these peels inside the fridge for about 3 days to effectively neutralize any bad smells.

In addition to their deodorizing effect, the citrus peels can slightly increase humidity absorption inside the fridge, helping maintain a fresher environment overall.

White Vinegar

White vinegar contains acetic acid, a natural solvent that can dissolve and eliminate odor-causing substances. Using white vinegar is very simple. Pour some vinegar into a small bowl and place it inside the fridge. The vinegar will slowly evaporate and remove bad odors.

Alternatively, you can dilute white vinegar with water, pour it into a spray bottle, and spray it into the corners and shelves of the refrigerator. After spraying, wipe the surfaces clean with a dry cloth to ensure the smell is thoroughly removed.

Using vinegar is a great natural and chemical-free way to keep your fridge smelling fresh and clean.

Dried Tea Leaves

Take about 50 grams of dried tea leaves, preferably scented tea, and put them into a small cloth bag or a disposable paper cup. Place this inside the fridge and leave it there continuously for around 10 days. The palmitic acid content in tea helps absorb bad odors effectively.

Additionally, dried tea leaves also absorb excess moisture in the fridge, preventing dampness that can contribute to unpleasant smells. After some time, remove the tea leaves, dry them in the sun, and reuse them to keep your fridge smelling fresh.

Coffee Grounds

Used coffee grounds are also very effective in deodorizing your fridge. Save your coffee grounds, dry them, and place them in a thin cloth bag or a small bowl inside the refrigerator. The strong coffee scent will help mask and eliminate bad odors.

Keep the coffee grounds in the fridge for several days, and you will notice the unpleasant smells disappear, replaced by a subtle coffee aroma. After use, you can recycle the coffee grounds as fertilizer for your plants, making this a very eco-friendly option.

Additional Tips for a Fresh-Smelling Fridge

To prevent your fridge from developing unpleasant odors, it’s important to clean it regularly. Wipe down shelves and compartments with a mixture of warm water and baking soda or vinegar every week to kill bacteria and remove residue.

Store food properly by placing them in airtight containers or sealed bags. Separate raw foods from cooked foods to prevent cross-contamination and odor transfer. Regularly check and dispose of expired or spoiled food to avoid bad smells.

Also, avoid overcrowding the fridge, as this restricts airflow and can cause odors to linger. Proper organization helps maintain better air circulation and freshness.

Lastly, consider placing a box of baking soda in your fridge. Baking soda naturally absorbs odors and should be replaced every 3 months for best results.
