36-year-old teacher died of diabetes despite not liking sweets, doctor said it was due to 4 dishes she loved

Diabetes is a dangerous disease that causes many complications. One of the main causes of diabetes is related to food and drink. The disease is becoming more common among younger people, with many people being diagnosed. Currently, there is no permanent cure, and treatment primarily focuses on managing blood sugar levels through diet, insulin injections, or medication to lower blood sugar.

If diabetes leads to complications, it can cause damage to internal organs, nerves, and even lead to cancer.

This is the case with a 36-year-old teacher named Mrs. Lương, who despite being young, passed away due to diabetes.

Mrs. Lương (36 years old) was a Chinese language teacher at an elementary school in China.

It is known that Mrs. Lương began experiencing symptoms of fatigue, weakness, rapid heart rate, and abdominal pain at the end of 2020. However, during that time, she was busy making up for classes after the COVID-19 pandemic and preparing for student exams, so she didn't go to the hospital for a check-up.

A few months later, Mrs. Lương suddenly fainted in front of her classroom. When she was rushed to the hospital, her blood sugar levels were found to be very high. She was diagnosed with severe diabetes.

After a period of treatment, her diabetes worsened, and Mrs. Lương fell into a coma and passed away after 8 hours of emergency care.

Upon hearing the news from the doctor, Mrs. Lương's husband couldn't believe it. He cried and asked why his wife, so young and rarely eating sweet foods, could have diabetes.

However, after investigating her daily habits, doctors identified 4 foods that Mrs. Lương loved, which, despite not being sweet, contributed to higher blood sugar levels. These foods included:

  1. Eggplant
According to doctors, eggplant is generally good for health. In 100g of eggplant, there is 1000mg of potassium, 15mg of calcium, 400mcg of iron, 1.5g of fiber, 34mg of phosphorus, 10mcg of carotene, 15mg of vitamin C, 600mg of vitamin PP, and 100mcg of vitamin B2, but it contains no fats or cholesterol.
However, Mrs. Lương often cooked eggplant with a large amount of oil and seasoning. Although she was 1.5m tall and weighed nearly 65kg, she ate a lot of fats, which affected her metabolism and increased her blood sugar levels.

  2. Cauliflower Soup
Mrs. Lương also frequently used cauliflower soup in her meals. While this is a low-calorie food, good for weight loss, she often stir-fried it with pork fat. According to doctors, cauliflower, when stir-fried, requires a lot of fat for flavor. Eating this regularly could deteriorate her health over time.

In addition to the two vegetable dishes mentioned, there were other foods that contributed to her diabetes:

  1. White Bread
White bread is made from refined grains, not whole grains. If consumed too much and too frequently, it can raise blood sugar levels and increase the risk of diabetes.

  2. Fried Potatoes
Not just fried potatoes, but almost all fried foods contain a lot of carbohydrates and fats, which are not good for diabetic patients. Eating too much fried food will rapidly increase blood sugar levels and keep them high for a long time due to the fats, which take time to digest.

  3. Canned Tomato Sauce
Canned tomato sauce is a popular condiment, but it is best to limit its consumption to avoid increasing blood sugar. Each tablespoon of tomato sauce contains a teaspoon of sugar.

  4. Canned Soup
Homemade soups made from fresh ingredients are healthy, but many canned soups sold in stores contain ingredients that are hard to control, like salt, sugar, or syrups. Regularly consuming these can lead to diabetes.

  5. White Rice
Rice contains a lot of starch, which is converted into sugar in the body. After every meal with white rice, blood sugar levels tend to rise. People with diabetes should avoid eating too much white rice. Instead, they should eat more vegetables.
