Chiefs confirm Patrick Mahomes tore ACL in left knee
The Kansas City Chiefs’ 16-13 defeat at the hands of the Los Angeles Chargers not only ended the team’s playoff hopes but also brought a premature end to quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ season.
Nearly three hours after the final whistle, the Chiefs confirmed that Mahomes had suffered a torn ACL in his left knee during the game. The devastating injury occurred in the fourth quarter on a play where he was awkwardly tackled while attempting a desperate throw, leaving fans and teammates in shock.
Mahomes initially received treatment at the sideline medical tent before being assisted off the field and into the locker room. With this injury, not only is his 2025 season over, but there is also uncertainty surrounding his availability at the start of the 2026 season, putting additional pressure on the team’s future planning.
Recognized as one of the most accomplished athletes in Kansas City’s history, Mahomes shared a heartfelt message with Chiefs Kingdom shortly before the official announcement, expressing his gratitude to fans and his determination to recover. His resilience and leadership will be key as the team navigates the remainder of the season without him.
For the final three games, backup quarterback Gardner Minshew will step in to lead the Chiefs. While the team knows it will miss the postseason for the first time since 2014, Minshew faces the challenge of keeping morale high and developing consistency under center.
As the organization and Mahomes continue to provide updates on his recovery and the team’s status, fans are encouraged to follow closely for the latest news. The Chiefs’ focus will now shift to evaluating their roster, supporting Mahomes’ rehabilitation, and preparing for a stronger comeback in 2026.
