ATLANTA (ANF/Gray News) — Authorities in Georgia have arrested a high school head football coach who is now facing multiple criminal charges related to alleged misconduct involving student athletes.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) reported that Darius Terrell Robinson, the head football coach at Greene County High School, is accused of physically assaulting players by hitting and choking them. Investigators say the alleged incidents took place over a period of several months, between September and November.

Officials with the Greene County School System confirmed that Robinson had already been placed on administrative leave prior to his arrest, after the district became aware of the allegations. School leaders stated that they acted quickly once concerns were raised.

“Upon receiving the allegation of misconduct, the administrative team at GCHS took immediate action to investigate and address the concerns in conjunction with district office staff,” said Superintendent Dr. Aaron Schmuhl in a statement.

According to the GBI, Robinson has been charged with one count of simple battery and two counts of aggravated assault. Authorities have not released additional details about the alleged incidents, including how many students may have been involved.

The investigation remains ongoing, and officials have indicated that more information may be released as the case progresses. As with all criminal cases, Robinson is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
