PART 2: “I can make her speak.”

The orchestra was still playing when the microphone suddenly screamed with sharp feedback, slicing through the glittering ballroom and stopping every conversation mid-sentence. Crystal chandeliers glowed above hundreds of stunned guests as Daniel Harper, billionaire owner of the estate, stood center stage gripping the mic with shaking hands. Tears streamed openly down his face. His voice cracked with pain as he shouted to the room, “If anyone can make my daughter speak again… I’ll pay one million dollars!” Silence crashed across the marble floor.

Even the musicians lowered their instruments. Beside him stood eight-year-old Emily in a white dress, holding his hand, her eyes beautiful but empty, mute since the day her mother died three years earlier. Guests exchanged uncomfortable looks. Some whispered. Others pitied him. Then, from the back entrance, a small calm voice pierced the silence. “I can make her speak.” Heads snapped toward the doorway. Under the golden light stood a thin boy in torn clothes, dusty shoes, and eyes far older than his age. Guards rushed forward. Nervous laughter spread through the room. Phones lifted into the air. Daniel turned with rage and grief colliding in his face.

“Get him out!” he shouted. But the boy didn’t flinch. He only looked at Emily. “I can help her.” Something shifted in the girl’s eyes. The room felt it instantly. The boy walked slowly through the parted crowd as if he belonged there more than anyone else. He stopped inches from Emily and asked softly, “Do you remember your mommy’s song?” Daniel froze. Emily’s lips trembled. Tears filled her eyes. The boy began humming a soft melody—simple, tender, haunting. Emily’s hands started shaking. Guests leaned in. Daniel stopped breathing. Then, for the first time in three years, the little girl whispered one broken word. “…Mom.” The microphone slipped from Daniel’s hand and smashed against the marble floor. He collapsed to his knees sobbing. But before anyone could move, the boy reached into his pocket… and slowly pulled out Emily’s mother’s wedding ring.
