PART 2: The marble floor was so cold it hurt her knees.

Tiny dirty hands struggled to push the heavy mop across the enormous mansion foyer while water dripped slowly into the silent room.

The little blonde girl scrubbed the same spot over and over, tears sliding down her cheeks.

“Dad… where are you?” she whispered.

The giant front door suddenly slammed open.

Cold evening light flooded the mansion.

A tall man stepped inside wearing a dark overcoat, carrying a small white teddy bear tied with a ribbon.

Then he froze.

The teddy bear slipped from his fingers and landed softly on the marble.

The girl turned toward the sound.

For one tiny second, her eyes filled with hope.

“Daddy—”

But the hope vanished instantly.

Fear replaced it.

She tried to stand too quickly, slipped on the wet floor, and crashed painfully back onto her knees while clutching the mop like she was afraid to let go.

From a nearby room, an elegant woman in white appeared holding a wine glass.

Annoyed.
Calm.
Almost bored.

“Why are you home early?”

The man didn’t answer.

His eyes moved slowly across the room.

The shaking hands.

The red swollen knees.

The metal bucket.

The soaked little dress.

The silent child trying not to cry.

Then finally—
the spotless white dress of the woman standing above her.

The mansion became unbearably quiet.

Even the ticking clock seemed to stop.

The little girl lowered her head in shame.

Tiny broken whisper:

“She said I had to earn dinner.”

The wine glass trembled in the woman’s hand.

The man slowly turned toward her.

And for the first time, fear entered her face.

His voice was low.
Broken.

“Why is my daughter cleaning your floor?”

The woman’s lips parted, but no sound came out.

The little girl quietly crawled toward the fallen teddy bear and hugged it tightly against her chest.

Then—

the man took one slow step toward the woman.

And she suddenly backed away.

“Wait…” she whispered.

But his expression only grew darker.

Because near the staircase—

he finally noticed the small bruises on his daughter’s arms.

Part 2 in the comments.
