Tips for cleaning plastic containers and glass containers full of grease, without scrubbing

Food containers that are covered in grease can be very difficult to clean, especially plastic ones. Even when washed thoroughly with hot water and dishwashing liquid, they may still feel slippery and greasy, as the oil residue is not completely removed.

To effectively remove grease from food containers, you can try the methods below.

Using paper towels and dish soap

To clean greasy plastic or glass containers, pour a small amount of warm water into the container, add a little dishwashing liquid, and place 2–3 sheets of paper towel inside. Close the lid tightly and shake vigorously for at least 10 seconds. The paper towels will absorb the grease. After that, simply rinse the container with clean water.

You can put a few paper towels along with warm water and dish soap into the container, close the lid, and shake well to remove grease.

Using cornstarch and vinegar

Mix one teaspoon of cornstarch with vinegar to form a thick paste, then spread it evenly inside the container. This mixture helps absorb grease stains. Afterward, wash the container with dish soap and rinse with clean water as usual.

Using baking soda

Baking soda is a commonly used cleaning ingredient that effectively removes stubborn stains, including grease. If you have baking soda in your kitchen, you can use it to clean greasy plastic food containers. Mix baking soda with water in a 3:1 ratio to create a thick paste. Apply the mixture to the container and leave it overnight. The next day, wash it with dish soap as normal.

Using vinegar

Vinegar can break down grease thanks to its acetic acid content. Soak a paper towel in vinegar and wipe the entire container, focusing on areas with heavy grease buildup. For better results, leave it for a few minutes before washing with dish soap.

Using lemon

Lemon is excellent for cleaning and deodorizing. Cut a fresh lemon in half and rub it over the container, especially on greasy areas. Leave it for 1–2 hours so the acid can break down the grease more effectively. Then wash the container with dish soap and clean water as usual.

Using hot salt water

This is a popular method for removing grease from cookware and food containers. Prepare a basin of hot water, add coarse salt, and stir until dissolved. Soak the greasy item in the solution for about 10 minutes, then wash it with dish soap as usual. The grease will be completely removed.
Note: For plastic containers, always check whether they can withstand high temperatures before using hot water to avoid deformation or damage.
