NY Giants quarterback Russell Wilson and wife donate $3 million to Mount Sinai Children's Hospital

NEW YORK (WABC) — A well-known NFL star is making a meaningful impact off the field by giving not only his time, but also a generous gift to children receiving medical care in New York City.

New York Giants quarterback Russell Wilson makes it a point to visit Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital on the Upper East Side every Tuesday, bringing encouragement, smiles, and a sense of normalcy to young patients facing serious health challenges.

Often compared to Santa Claus for his uplifting presence and thoughtful gifts, Wilson has now taken his commitment even further. Alongside his wife, Grammy-winning singer Ciara, he is donating $3 million through their Why Not You Foundation to support pediatric care at the hospital.

The contribution will be used to create new therapeutic play areas and creative arts spaces designed specifically for children. These environments aim to reduce stress, promote emotional healing, and allow young patients to express themselves through play, art, and imagination during difficult hospital stays.

Wilson shared that his passion for helping hospitalized children is deeply personal. Growing up, his father spent significant time in the hospital while battling diabetes, and his mother worked as an emergency room nurse. Those experiences shaped his understanding of how powerful compassion and support can be in medical settings.

“For me, it was about finding a way to truly make a difference,” Wilson said in an interview with ABC’s Will Reeve on Good Morning America. “Being in the hospital can be overwhelming for families and kids, so anything we can do to bring hope really matters.”

A portion of the donation will also go toward renovating a shared recreational space known as “The Zone.” This area is a rare haven within the hospital where children can relax, socialize, and simply be kids — without doctors, treatments, or medical equipment present.

Hospital staff say Wilson’s continued presence and generosity have had a lasting impact, not only on patients but also on families and caregivers. His efforts highlight how athletes can use their platform to create positive change far beyond the game.
