Only the rapid beeping echoed through the night.

Shane looked from the glowing red ball to the terrified woman.

His voice barely came out:

“What do you mean… your son?”

Before she could answer—

“GET DOWN!” one of the tactical men screamed.

Everyone hit the ground.

The red ball suddenly split open mechanically.

Shane’s eyes widened in horror.

Inside the sphere…

A newborn baby.

Tiny. Pale. Barely breathing.

Connected to tubes and blinking electronic sensors.

“Oh my God…” Shane whispered.

The woman broke down crying.

“They took him from me after he was born,” she said. “They said he was dangerous.”

One of the armed men stepped forward slowly.

“That child is government property,” he said coldly.

Shane’s expression darkened instantly.

“The hell he is.”

The baby suddenly began choking weakly.

A sensor on its chest flashed red.

WARNING — HEART RATE DROPPING.

The woman screamed:

“He needs oxygen!”

Shane ripped off his leather jacket, wrapped the infant carefully, and held him against his chest.

The tactical leader raised his weapon.

“Hand over the child. NOW.”

Shane slowly stood up.

Desert wind blew across the highway.

His Harley headlights cut through the darkness behind him.

The baby opened his eyes for the first time.

Bright unnatural blue.

Then every electronic device around them suddenly shut off.

Cars died.

Lights exploded.

Radios screamed with static.

The armed men panicked.

And the baby looked directly at Shane…

before whispering one impossible word:

“Dad.”
