🎬 PART 2: «The Son She Was Told Was Gone»

The boy did not hug her back at first.

He just sat there, stiff and shaking, with the sandwich crushed between his fingers.

“My name is Caleb,” he whispered. “Do you really know me?”

The woman cried harder.

“I named you Caleb,” she said. “You were taken from me when you were three.”

The little girl covered her mouth, her eyes filling with tears.

“You’re my brother?”

Caleb looked at her, then back at the woman.

“They told me nobody wanted me.”

“No,” his mother said, her voice breaking. “I searched for you every day.”

Caleb’s chin trembled.

“The man who kept me said you sold me.”

The woman went still.

Her hands tightened gently on his cheeks.

“What man?”

Caleb looked toward the end of the alley.

A black car was parked near the curb.

Inside, behind the windshield, sat the woman’s husband.

The same man who had comforted her for years while she cried over her missing son.

The same man who told her the police had stopped looking.

The same man who helped raise her daughter while hiding her son in the city streets.

Caleb whispered, “He said if I came near you, he’d make me disappear again.”

The woman slowly stood, pulling both children behind her.

Her husband started the engine.

But before the car could move, police lights flashed at the alley entrance.

The woman’s daughter clung to Caleb’s arm, crying now.

“Mom, did Dad do this?”

The woman could barely answer.

She only held both children tighter.

Caleb looked up at her with a broken little voice.

“You didn’t leave me?”

She dropped to her knees again and pressed her forehead to his.

“Never,” she sobbed. “Not for one second.”

For the first time, Caleb let himself fall into her arms.

The sandwich slipped to the pavement.

He did not care anymore.

He had found something warmer than food.
