Rev. Jesse Jackson discharged from acute care facility, family says
CHICAGO (WLS) — Reverend Jesse Jackson was released from an acute care facility over the weekend, his family confirmed.
He had been receiving additional medical care following his discharge from Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
"This has been quite a journey for our immediate family, the many people my father interacts with daily, and the countless lives he has touched over the years," said Yusef Jackson, Reverend Jackson’s son and family spokesperson. "We are deeply grateful to be able to gather with family around the table, recognizing that this blessing is not afforded to everyone. Our hearts and prayers are with those navigating this season without loved ones, and we extend love, comfort, and compassion to every family experiencing loss. We hope that all can find moments of peace and connection during challenging times."
Reverend Jackson was originally diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2013. However, in April, doctors revised his diagnosis to PSP (progressive supranuclear palsy), a rare neurological disorder that affects movement, balance, and other bodily functions. Family members emphasized that, despite the challenges of his health, Reverend Jackson remains surrounded by care, support, and the love of those close to him.
Throughout his decades-long career as a civil rights leader and activist, Reverend Jackson has inspired countless individuals, advocating tirelessly for social justice, equality, and human rights. His family noted that his resilience and dedication continue to serve as a model for perseverance in the face of adversity.
