The Chase’s Paul Sinha on the rudest celebrity he’s ever met

Paul on The Chase
Paul Sinha, the quizzer known for The Chase, recently shared a notably awkward run-in with a major A‑lister, describing the celebrity as “really nasty and rude.” The incident occurred at a glamorous industry party some years ago, and Sinha didn’t hold back in recounting how he was treated. Sinha, who has been appearing on ITV’s The Chase since 2011, has met many famous faces during his career. However, in a recent appearance on the Bad Boys Done Good podcast, hosted by Tom Ward and Joe Jacobs, he revealed that this particular encounter stood out as the “rudest” he has experienced in television.

He described the scenario: at this ITV party, he attempted to express admiration—“fanboyed” as he puts it—toward someone he looked up to. Rather than a friendly response, the celebrity became dismissive. According to Sinha, the individual said to a friend, “You don’t even know who this t*** is,” and then walked off together with laughter, leaving Sinha feeling embarrassed.

Reflecting on his emotional reaction, Sinha admitted he wanted to fire back with a retort: “You’re not even the funniest person in your marriage. That would be Jennifer Saunders.” This line illustrated both his sense of hurt and his sharp wit in response.

The celebrity in question was revealed to be Adrian Edmondson, a well‑known figure in British comedy, especially famous for The Young Ones, Bottom, and other classic sitcoms. Edmondson has been married to fellow comedian Jennifer Saunders since 1985.

Additional Context and Related Reporting

  • According to The Express (as cited via Free Online Library), Sinha explicitly called Adrian Edmondson “a douche bag” during his recounting of the event, calling his behavior perhaps the “biggest … in TV”.

  • Media outlets such as Female First also report that Sinha said the exchange happened “a few years ago” and involved Edmondson walking off with a friend after dismissing Sinha’s attempt at admiration. Edmondson, age 68 at the time of the reports, remains a well‑respected name in British comedy, though the media coverage of this incident frames the moment as a surprisingly harsh reaction from one industry veteran to another.
