The words hit harder than anything.

Daniel froze.

DANIEL:
“…Why?”

The boy wiped his nose with the back of his hand, trying to stay strong.

BOY:
“She’s at the hospital.”

A ripple of shock moved through the guests.

The bride’s face went pale.

Daniel stood up too fast, his chair crashing behind him.

DANIEL (urgent):
“What happened?!”

The boy looked down.

BOY:
“She’s been sick… for a long time.”

Silence again—but this time, it wasn’t confusion.

It was guilt.

Crushing. Unavoidable guilt.

Daniel’s mind raced.

All the years.
All the missed calls.
All the messages he never answered.

Because he thought she had moved on.

Because he convinced himself she didn’t need him anymore.

BOY (voice breaking):
“She told me… if you saw this, you’d come.”

Daniel’s grip tightened around the bracelet.

His entire body shook.

DANIEL (whispers):
“She kept it… all this time…”

The boy nodded.

BOY:
“She said you gave it to her… the day you promised you’d never leave.”

That promise echoed like a curse.

Daniel closed his eyes.

Then suddenly—

He moved.

Fast.

He grabbed his jacket, not even looking at the bride.

BRIDE (shaking, hurt):
“Daniel… what are you doing?”

He stopped for half a second.

Just enough to answer.

DANIEL (without turning):
“I’m fixing the biggest mistake of my life.”

And then—

He ran.

Straight out of the chapel.

The boy followed.

The doors slammed open.

Light flooded in.

And for the first time in years—

Daniel wasn’t running away.

He was running back.
