Cutting plastic bottles in half and leaving them in the kitchen sink: Amazing uses, many people will regret not knowing about them sooner.
Don't rush to throw away plastic bottles; repurpose them to solve problems around the house.
What is the purpose of placing plastic bottles in the kitchen sink?
In our daily lives, we use and discard quite a lot of plastic bottles, from mineral water bottles, soft drink bottles, dish soap bottles, etc. Instead of throwing them away, you can keep them to reuse for other things around the house.
One handy trick with plastic containers is to use them as a basket for leftover food in the kitchen sink.
After each meal, because there's not much leftover food, many people conveniently throw it directly into the sink. The sink does have a strainer basket, but it's quite small and can only hold a small amount of waste. The basket quickly fills up, slowing down the drainage. You'll have to lift the basket out and empty it several times to allow the water to drain faster.
To solve this problem, you can cut a plastic bottle in half and leave it right by the kitchen sink.
The method is very simple. Take a knife or scissors and cut a piece of plastic in half. We will use the bottom part of the bottle.
Hold a sharp nail firmly in a pliers grip and heat it over a flame. Use the hot nail to poke 5-6 drainage holes in the bottom of the plastic bottle. Additionally, drill two more holes near the bottle opening to thread a hanging string through. When the nail cools, reheat it over the flame. A hot nail will make it easier to poke holes in the plastic bottle. If you don't have a nail, you can use a piece of wire.
Take a piece of string and thread it through the two holes drilled in the bottle. Tie the ends of the string together to make a hanging loop.
Now, stick a hook to the corner of the sink and hang the plastic bottle on it.
When washing dishes, simply scoop the leftover food into the bottle. The liquid from the food will drain out through the hole you've drilled in the bottom of the bottle. Using a wide-mouthed plastic bottle will make it more convenient to pour food and hold more leftovers.
After emptying the leftover food, simply lift the plastic bottle and throw it in the trash. Wash the plastic bottle and hang it back in its original place.
After washing dishes, you can place your sponges and steel wool pads in this basket made from a plastic bottle. Water from the dishwashing tools will drain out through the small holes, keeping them dry and preventing bacteria from growing.
Place the tip of the steel wool scouring pad into the plastic bottle.
Steel wool pads help you scrub pots, pans, and dishes more quickly. However, the steel bristles can scratch your hands and fingernails during use.
At this point, you can use a plastic bottle to secure the steel wool pad, creating a convenient handle for easier use.
You will also need to cut a plastic bottle in half, but this time we will use the top part of the bottle.
Using pliers, firmly grip a nail and heat it over a flame until hot, then punch two holes in the bottle cap.
Take a piece of string and thread it through the steel wool pad. Place the steel wool pad into the prepared half of the plastic bottle, threading the string through the mouth of the bottle and then through the two small holes in the bottle cap. Screw the bottle cap back on and tie the end of the string to create a hanging loop.
From now on, when you need to use the steel wool scrubber, just hold it by the top of the plastic bottle. After use, hang it on a hook next to the sink to dry.
